Abstract:
International sanctions are a tool used by countries and international organizations to influence the behavior of targeted nations, entities, or individuals. These measures can include trade restrictions, asset freezes, travel bans, and other economic penalties. Sanctions are typically imposed to address issues such as human rights violations, nuclear proliferation, terrorism, and aggressive actions against other countries. While they aim to compel compliance with international norms, the effectiveness of sanctions varies, and they can have significant humanitarian impacts on civilian populations. Key examples in recent years include sanctions on Iran and North Korea over their nuclear programs, and on Russia due to its actions in Ukraine.
