Abstract:
US-Latin America relations encompass a wide range of issues including trade, immigration, security, and political cooperation. Historically marked by periods of intervention and cooperation, recent years have seen a renewed focus on economic partnerships and addressing migration crises. The US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has redefined trade relations, while issues like drug trafficking, corruption, and political instability in countries such as Venezuela and Nicaragua continue to challenge diplomatic ties. The US also faces competition from China, which has increased its economic presence in Latin America. Key developments include the Biden administration’s efforts to address root causes of migration, climate change cooperation, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on bilateral relations.
